On Sunday 12th May the traditional spring concert was held, this time called "Concert in Paintings of Famous Masters". It was not the first time the orchestra performed at the Landek Park mining museum in Ostrava. The conductor Ondřej Packan prepared a demanding repertoir composed of two different parts. In the first part the audience could enjoy pieces by James Barnes, Otto M. Schwarz and Johan de Meij - Symphonic Overture, Saxpack and Dutch Masters Suite. The solo part was played by the extraordinary saxophone player Lukáš Kolek. In the second part, the orchestra performed music by Czech composers: Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Leoš Janáček and Pavel Staněk, the pieces being Festival March, Slavonic Dance No. 1, Polka and Finale from the opera The Bartered Bride, 6th Lachian Dance and Czech Folk Dance Suite. As encore, the orchestra played Fučík's Florentinen March. The concert was presented by Daniela Walová and sponsored by the Statutory Town of Karviná and the Landek, OKD and Život umělce foundations. The OKD mining foundation not only supported the concert, but also helped the orchestra obtain a new set of timpani. Many thanks to our supporters!
